Not nearly quite as breathtaking as his dramas or even the other collegiate comedies I’ve watched from him but the running sight gags are still a great deal of fun and just the way Ozu uses framing to depict how these friends hang out and bond together while in colege and then gradually diverge away from the protagonist makes the whole thing worthwhile.
So damn sexy and charming and ahead of it’s time (and ours)! Miriam Hopkins in this movie is my hero. Not just super hot and funny but also smart and successful and genuinely good at her job. Plus, she’s totally comfortable with both her attraction to two men at the same time as well as her inability to stick with her “no sex” agreement with said men! The most beguiling thing about the movie is just the honesty and affection between the three characters, the glue that lets them walk away as a threesome, arm-in-arm into the sunset.
