I didn’t love this one as much as I did La Rupture mostly because I find La Rupture darker, funnier and just more out there. But this one comes close enough and what it lacks in terms of gonzo, it makes up for in sharpness of insight. The simplicity of the plot in this one gives Chabrol even more room to insert these little gestures and moments that are ambiguous in their reading and add so many different shades to these characters. And yet another jaw-dropping ending.. with a conclusion that’s chilling in it’s implications.
