I had recorded this from TCM a long time ago and for some reason I kept putting it off till recently. Turned out to be a pretty good companion piece to the Ernst Lubitsch films I’ve been so thoroughly enjoying recently. This film shares a lot of the same charm and lightness of touch. The opening shot where we see just these rooftops of Paris apartments and then see two men wake up from their sleep, cross rooftops in their pajamas and peer into an apartment where a party seems to be on. Most of the film is just a long chase through the streets of Paris (in this case a really amazingly wonderfully designed set) in search of a misplaced lottery ticket. René Lefèvre and Annabella are both just so much fun to watch and the movie is just full of people singing and being in love and being so French Smiley. Must watch more.
