My cheeks still hurt from smiling through this movie! Pretty French girls looking for love, young dreamer-painter boys in search of the feminine ideal, a gorgeous pastel-colored world where everyone always has a skip in their step and speaks in rhymes – just so completely charming. And then Gene Kelly appears and the awesomeness just reaches another level! Sure, it lacks some of the intensity and poignance of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg but more than makes up for it in terms of just sheer fun and joy. Michel Picoli is so great as the man who was dumped for having the wrong last name. And seriously, Gene Kelly is just the most likable man in the world!
